Change is coming

New Year's Day is on the way. Over the next few days, men and women will gather around water coolers on the job and announce their New Year’s resolutions. Some have already shared desires for a better life while sipping coffee among friends. The topic of many emails outlines an individual’s intention to change and to grow in 2010. I expect to hear people commit to making better choices concerning their health by exercising, dieting, or to even quit smoking. Others will insist on the need for a greater prayer life and more church attendance to build the faith to pursue their dreams. What areas in your life are you looking to change in 2010?

  1. I am looking to "be on time." No, seriously! I'm tired of being late for everything, including church. I heard a preacher say, that when people watch football games, it can go into overtime and nobody leaves. Everyone stays for overtime, but when it comes to church, we are late and if the service doesn't end on time, people get up and walk out. I believe that if I'm in the right place at the RIGHT TIME, I will get my blessing. Pray for me...

  2. Good for you and those that are depending on you to be on time. Being a time requires a major adjustment for many. There are several books on the market to help you. Here's a tip. Look at the amount of time that you spend getting ready to leave the house on your way to work, church, or whereever you need to be. See if you can do some things faster and see if you can cut out others. It just might require that you prepare your self for an early start the night before. Try laying out your clothes and gathering your things in advance.

  3. I typically end the year with a LONG "to do" list for the upcoming year. For 2010, instead of creating an overwhelming and nearly impossible to complete list, I've decided to focus on one thing in each of the 5 areas of my life- ministry, relationships, financial, health, and career. By doing this, the biggest change that I'm looking to enact developing BALANCE. I'm understanding more and more that over investing in either of these areas leads to a deficiency in others. I believe that once true balance is acheived, we are able to appreciate and enjoy the gifts of God so much more.

  4. Now let me jump in here. I realize that I did not share what I am looking to change so that I have a better life. I need to be more focused #1. So, to decrease the amount of distractions that I have, I will be giving away my PlayStation. I know that I don't spend a lot of time on it but an hour here and there adds up. Also, I will watch less television in 2010. I have watched enough Law & Order and CSI episodes to last a lifetime. I will pray more, read more, and concentrate on the vision that God has given me, and give my wife and daughter the attention they need. It is not fare to myself to watch tv and reduce my productivity while watching athletes, reality tv superstars, movie stars, and other entertainers live their dreams and make money while I put my life on hold for hours at a time when there is so much that I need to do.

  5. I have been so focused on getting ahead of church work in the coming year that I have not thought much about what I would like to change about me or what my goals for 2010 are. I would like to increase my ability to cleave and not respond to people as much as I am used to. I also want to change my bible study and prayer time to an increase. Lastly I want to change how much I witness to neighbors, friends, family and strangers.

  6. Can I testify? Being delivered from the opinion of others is simply wonderful. I want you to get there. Think of it, there are possibly hundreds if not thousands in your church, hundreds on your job, etc. Don't even mention the internet. There a people everywhere especially if you live in a big city like Chicago. Without deliverance from people, you will be giving control of your emotions to potentially billions and you would be lost in the crowd. God is able to help you. As far as your excitement about witnessing, I love it. I hope you run across some of my family members with your evangelistic spirit. Anonymous, somebody is waiting on you to tell them how wonderful Jesus is. Read about Phillip and the Ethiopian and be encouraged in Acts chapter 8. Aside from the people that want to fight when you say Jesus (preach to them too) there are some people that are one revelation away from miracle of salvation.
